Com este álbum a banda se entrega mais ainda ao pop, contendo muitas faixas curtas e de fácil acesso, como a 'Wing and a Prayer' e 'You Make me Smile'. Algumas poucas músicas aqui são ótimas e tem grandes passagens instrumentais como 'Echoes' e 'The Sleeper' (que é a única instrumental), essas duas e mais algumas dão valor ao álbum, e o fazem valer a pena para os verdadeiros fans antigos da banda, mais que ainda assim podem ficar desapontados com o resto pop. Ainda com a formação de Rain Dances, este tem menos saxofone que anterior e mais guitarra, isso é bom mas infelizmente poucas faixas relembram o som do Camel de álbums anteriores. 'Breathless' é o último álbum com o mestre dos teclados Peter Bardens, a pequena e bela balada 'Rainbow's End' explica os motivos de sua saída na voz de Andy Latimer.
